Erika Mathews

About the Author

Erika Mathews is an author and editor who lives in the farm country of Minnesota with her husband and three children. She’s a homeschool graduate with a Bachelor’s in Communications, a Master’s in Biblical Ministries, and a passion for sharing Jesus Christ and His truth. When she’s not working with books, she enjoys reading, outdoor activities, piano and violin, organizing, and using the Oxford comma.

Erika spent her childhood writing in her three giant notebooks, exploring Scripture, nature, and flying squirrels in her earliest works. When she was thirteen, Erika knew God was specifically calling her to write books that honor and glorify Him. Through high school essays and numerous writing courses, she discovered how much she enjoyed both writing and grammar. One assignment ended up being the first draft of what would later become Gather ’Round the Fables, a whimsical collection of fables rewritten in three humorous styles.

Inspired by life lessons that God teaches her, Scripture, and human experience, Erika has continued to write nonfiction, poetry, and fiction that honor God and encourage her readers to intimately know Him. Her popular kingdom adventure series, Truth from Taerna, is her first fiction series, written over the span of six years during NaNoWriMo each November. The first book, Promise’s Prayer, received Best Kingdom Adventure, Best Tales of Faith, and Best Book Cover in the 2018 Indie Econ. Thanks to all that she learned while self-publishing Truth from Taerna, Erika published her Master’s degree paper as Resting Life: Jesus’ Rest for the Busy or Burdened Believer and has written three more Christian nonfiction works, as well as being published in six anthologies, four of which she edited. She currently has fifteen published books, all of which demonstrate the power of God through ordinary people, transforming daily life into His resting life.

When not writing, Erika enjoys reading vintage fiction and contemporary fiction with strong Christian messages and Christian nonfiction, spending time in nature, and playing the piano and violin. Her favorite books, which have influenced her desire to weave deep spiritual messages into her own stories, include How I Learned to Meditate and The Power of the Blood Covenant by Malcolm Smith, The Practice of the Presence of God by Andrew Murray, The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life by Hannah Whitall Smith, Hind’s Feet on High Places and Mountains of Spices by Hannah Hurnard, Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, and works by Louisa May Alcott, Jaye L. Knight, EDEN Southworth, and Elizabeth George Speare.

Erika was homeschooled and graduated from the International Ministerial Institute in 2013 with a Master’s in Biblical Ministry. She also graduated summa cum laude with her Bachelors in Communications through an online accelerated degree program. She married her husband Joshua, whom she’d known throughout her life, in 2015. They live in the farm country of Minnesota with their three children.
She’s currently working on reaching her immediate goal of publishing twenty books and expanding her author platform, as well as continuing to provide Christian writers with spiritual counseling, editing, and formatting services.
